"Have Space Suit - Will Travel" Kick Starter Launches Today!

Have Space Suit - Will Travel is the second graphic novel adapted from Robert Heinlein’s Virginia Edition and will re-unite the creative team that brought you Citizen of the Galaxy, which was first published exclusively for project backers on Kickstarter, then distributed world-wide by IDW Comics. Due to the success of Citizen of the Galaxy additional Heinlein titles from his Virginia Edition Collection are planned for adaptation into graphic novels with plans to modernize and tie-in various stories into a shared Heinlein Universe. Your support helps re-imagine these epic and timeless stories of Robert Heinlein into the visual medium of graphic novels.

COTG at the New World Conference

The New Worlds Conference - Austin, Texas October 16th and 17th
The New Worlds conference was a wonderful experience and was attended by some of the best minds in commercial space development. Topics ranged from interplanetary architecture and space law to the arts and inspiration for space exploration.

Rick Tomlinson - President, New Worlds Institute

The main emphasis of our talk involved the Heinlein Prize Trust's  child outreach programs including the "Have Space Suit Will Travel" Program and our latest effort to reintroduce the world of Heinlein to today’s youth by way of the “Citizen of the Galaxy” graphic novel. The talk was well received. Many of the questions were about our next Graphic Novel project and how they could support our next effort.

Other speakers included: Pat Rawlings, NASA artist and concept illustrator and Janet McPhee, Ph.D., Executive Director of the SciArt Exchange.

It was a great experience and we sold out all of our graphic novels!

COTG Review

COTG Act II Available Now at www.heinleinbooks.com
Review from March issue of Comics Grinder
Here we have the “dean of science fiction,” Robert Heinlein, in the pages of this new comic book limited series, “Citizen of the Galaxy,” from IDW Publishing. Welcome to Jabbul. We follow Thorby, a slave boy who has just arrived off a slave rocket ship. He is put up at auction. No one is impressed, except for, Baslim, a beggar who buys Thorby at a great bargain. This strange planet of Jabbul is not Earth and yet it’s not so different, not when you pause to reflect on our own history. Slavery officially ended in America only 150 years ago, right? That’s what you call less than a blink of an eye in a historical perspective. On Jabbul, slavery is very much alive. And if Thorby stands any chance of carving out a decent life for himself, he had best listen to Baslim.

Adapted by Rob Lazaro and Eric Gignac, this is a great gateway to Heinlein. And the art by Steve Erwin, with colors and inks by Eric Gignac, provides a pleasing narrative all its own. You’ve got what amounts to an interstellar action/adventure coming of age tale. The pacing is nicely handled as we get to know our two main characters in this first act. Baslim, apparently a mere beggar, appears to have the best of intentions for Thorby, his new slave. For one thing, Baslim has a keen sense of where best to reside. Why not squat in what remains of an unfinished lavish amphitheater? And Balim proves to be highly intelligent. Before Thorby realizes it, he’s becoming something of a junior scholar under Baslim’s tutelage. This is all well and good as this tranquil period proves to be only temporary. Before long, Thorby must prepare for the next phase of his life away from Baslim.

“Citizen of the Galaxy #1″ is a 32-page comic book, priced at $3.99, available as of March 4. "Citizen of the Galaxy #2" will be available April 4th. For more information, visit our friends at IDW Publishing right here.

The Heinlein Book Club

Recently we've added and new page to the Heinlein Books site, The Heinlein Book Club.

Basically the Heinlein Book Club is a one stop hub to access everything you need to start your own Heinlein book club or discussion group. The site will be updated regularly with access to the latest lesson plans and discussion questions based on Heinlein's work as found in the Virginia Edition.

It is our hope that the site will grow with suggestions from Robert Heinlein's ever-growing fan base and will become a valuable asset not only to fans but for teachers and librarians who could use this site as a means to introduce the world of Heinlein to a younger generation of readers.

COTG Update 12 - We need your help!

Dear Heinlein readers,
We want to provide readers with resources to help them start Heinlein meeting/discussion groups in their local area. We are looking for discussion group materials (that you create or that are in the public domain) for Heinlein stories such as discussion questions, study guides, essays, poems, photos, illustrations/artwork, etc. that group leaders can share with other Heinlein fans (or future Heinlein fans) during their meetings.

If you wish to contribute to this effort please email submissions to: orders@viriginiaedition.com. Contributions used will be credited and posted on the www.heinleinbooks.comwebpage.

COTG Update 11 - Ready to Ship!

I just wanted to share with everyone that our book is nearly finished printing. It is an amazing feeling to have it off my shoulders. Steve and I will be at the Moon Day conference in Dallas this weekend signing the signature copies, lithographs and original art boards. If all goes well we should start sending out the KickStarter packages by the middle of next week!
It's been a long process and a great learning experience and again I really appreciate your patience and support. I know that many of your addresses have changed so I've carved out a good part of my weekend to make sure that my KS address book is up to date. Also I would like to add that you can still order additional copies and later on lithographs and original artwork at: www.heinleinbooks.com
We hope you enjoy!
Erg!

COTG Update 10

Notes from Steve Erwin at the Dallas Comic Con...

"Had a great time at Dallas Comic Con the last two days. Have to stay home today to deal with other time commitments. Met LOTS of people showing great enthusiasm for the release of the graphic novel! Quite a few were more than familiar with the book, some said it's their favorite Heinlein novel. I got something of a history lesson from a few "Heinlein-ologists" over the two days, too. "  ~se

COTG Update 9

Moving forward ...
With only few more chapters to go the prospects for a mid to late June delivery are looking very good.
Recently pages of the COTG Graphic novel were displayed at the Dallas Comic Con with Steve Erwin. He managed to pencil in several pages of the novel while fans looked on. You can see some of the latest postings and artwork on the COTG Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/thorby97?ref=hl

I never realized how much work goes into a Graphic Novel and I sometimes think it's just too much, then I hear Baslim's voice ringing in my ear; "Nonsense! You can learn to do anything if you apply yourself. You’re going to learn if I have to beat your silly head in!”
